The Sadowskis – FAMILY
Posted on November 10, 2009
Well we were rushed for time; we only had one hour to sneak in this short and sweet family photo session. I would have loved to spent a couple more hours with Sherry, John and their two beautiful children. I met them at Phalen Park just before heading to the hospital to work. Sherry ended up breaking her ankle, one of my flashes went crashing onto the ground but we still got some great images…

Diving into cinematic HD videography…
Posted on November 10, 2009
Now that I have had my Canon 5D Mark II for almost three months it has come time for me to exploit its’ HD video capabilities. Now many of you have video capability with your point and shoot cameras or even your cell phone. However, this camera’s video capabilities are quite different. The HD video that is able to be captured with this camera rivals that of camera systems costing $50,000.00 USD or more. It is truly a professional tool that is capable of producing 1080P video. I did not purchase this camera with the intentions of utilizing the video features, but after viewing some of the videos that it had produced I was totally intrigued.
Okay, so many of you are not interested in all of the techno babble… it is not easy to shoot great footage with this camera as it is first and foremost a camera designed for still photography. However, because of its technical prowess there are people and companies everywhere designing equipment that will allow professionals to employ the 5D Mark II as a full blown cinema production tool.
Since I have virtually no videography background I figured I would give it a shot. So this past weekend in Phoenix, AZ I had the opportunity to shoot my first wedding video. Since I was also the hired photographer, I had to juggle both tasks. Photography and videography are often times covered by three, four or even more individuals. I was hired to provide the still coverage so I had to focus on that. My goal was to get enough video footage to put together a 4-5 minute long cinematic HD wedding video or trailer.
Equipment utilized for video:
Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 17-40mm f4, Sigma 50mm 1.4
Camera Motion Research Blackbird stabilizer
Edited with Apple Final Cut Pro (first day using this software package… definitely a little more complex than iMovie)
Total editing time: about 7hrs
Lessons learned:
1. I don’t recommend doing what I did… It was very difficult to shoot stills while trying to sneak in 30-60 video clips. Both the bride and groom are close friends of mine, and I they were aware of my intentions prior to the wedding day. A big thanks goes to them for being flexible and having me out to Phoenix to cover their wedding.
2. I REALLY LIKE shooting video!
3. Learning to use Final Cut Pro is going to take some time, but the capabilities of the program are amazing…
So without further a do… Let me introduce Kimi and Casey in full 1080P HD video (compressed for web viewing)

You may want to pause the video to allow it to ‘buffer’ if you have a slower internet connection

Emily + Dimitri – WEDDING
Posted on October 12, 2009
I have known this bride and groom since high school and their ceremony was just minutes from where I grew up. The reception was held in a small, intimate venue in NE Mpls which is where “D” and Emily have made their home. Besides seeing old classmates, it was the first time in several years where I was able to visit with the parents of my HS friends. Congrats D and Emily; and thanks for allowing me to photograph your special day. ***FULL GALLERY COMING SOON***

Yeah, that is binaca!

Jessica + Louis WEDDING
Posted on October 1, 2009
I have known Jessica and Louis for years and I was more than thrilled when they invited me along to shoot their destination wedding in Las Vegas. Just a couple days before they headed out to Las Vegas Blvd, Jess and Louis had a small, intimate ceremony for family and close friends who would not be able to make it out to Caesar’s Palace. That ceremony was held at the coolest little church I have ever been to; out in the middle of the country just over an hour South of the twin cities metro in Nerstrand, MN. I would happily shoot another wedding in Nerstrand or Las Vegas. Here is a handful of images from both ceremonies:

The Baileys – FAMILY
Posted on September 28, 2009
Yesterday was a fantastic day to take a drive up to the Bailey house just north of the cities in East Bethel. Chris and Lisa have two boys, Liam and Robert and a beautiful girl, Lauren. Chris scheduled this session just in time it would seem as the rain came in last night and today’s ickiness makes it a great day for me to catch-up on editing, blogging and posting new albums on facebook. Here are some of my picks from the day:

Alec – 2010 SENIOR
Posted on September 28, 2009
Shooting your nephew’s senior portraits is one of those bittersweet moments…. Sweet because you know he is almost a legal adult and that he has such a bright future, but bitter because I’m now old enough to have a grown-up nephew! Alec is my oldest nephew and I am anxious to see where he decides to go after his senior year comes to an end. A recent ankle injury isn’t going to stop him from playing collegiate baseball for whatever team is lucky enough to recruit him. Here are some of my favorites from the day:

Laura + Geoff ENGAGEMENT
Posted on September 17, 2009
It has been some weather that we have been having here in Mpls this week… Summer has arrived in the middle of September it seems. I met up with Laura and Geoff near Lake Calhoun and we had two co-stars ‘Chuck’ and ‘Happy’, their two li’l bulldogs for the first half hour of our session. We dropped off the furry couple and headed to Uptown where I was able to spend some quality time with the couple of the hour. Laura recently completed her nursing degree at St. Kates and Geoff just finished up his JD at St. Thomas. They will be exchanging vows next Fall and I look forward to documenting the story of their wedding day.

Tim, The photos turned out simply beautiful. The hour was short but you turned out some perfect shots. You were able to capture Jonah as himself. The photos of Willow and Mommy are precious. I only needed one family photo and you were able to give me so much more. Thanks
(sorry your equipment crashed……….hope it is all okay!)
